In 2002, a lawyer was recruited by the Austin Bar Association to serve on an "e-voting" committee whose charter was to find a way to conduct the Bar's board elections and judicial evaluations online. When the committee could not find anything on the market that met the committee's requirements for anonymity and data integrity, the idea to create BallotBox was born.
